What are fanlistings?

As its name suggests, a fanlisting (FL) is a non-profit, non-commercial site that lists all fans of a certain subject, primarily for entertainment purposes (meaning: it's just for fun). An entire community has been built around this concept by and for fans since 2000, so practically every fanlisting on the internet is listed in one of two "master directories": The Fanlistings Network and The Anime Fanlistings Network. (The staff of those sites have been running the networks for almost two decades now, so kudos to them!)

Why join FLs? Because when we love something, sometimes it's not enough to be quiet; we want to tell and show people that we care about it. When you sign up for an FL, it's a simple and easy way to let everyone know that you like this subject enough to declare so in the world wide web. Fans don't even need to do anything else after signing up—the whole point is in putting your name down and being able to say, "Yeah, I'm a fan. And I'm proud to be one."

It's even better if you have your own website (though this is not required to join), because you have a place to show off this proclamation badge of your interests. If you link back here, I will link your site on the members' list, too.

Bottomline: You're a fan, you're proud to be one, and you want everyone to know. You have nothing to lose by joining. ;)

The Kurama/Botan (KuraBo, 蔵ぼ) Fanlisting

This fanlisting is specifically about the relationship (either romantic or platonic, but you obviously see my bias) between Kurama and Botan from Togashi Yoshihiro's hit manga series, Yu Yu Hakusho.

These two are not a canon couple—they actually had very few interactive moments in the series—but I suppose the YYH NL fandom found it rather easy to pair them together because, of the Yusuke-tachi (Yusuke gang, or Team Urameshi—the main protagonists of the series), they are the two not to have been paired up with anyone else. When the manga ended, Yusuke has Keiko, Kuwabara has Yukina, and even Hiei has Mukuro. (If you count in Koenma, then he has Ayame.) Hence, the only ones left must could make a good couple.

It also doesn't hurt that Kurama and Botan look good together. (That may be a very shallow reason to put two characters together, but I will stand by the argument that aesthetics comes first in shipping. ^^;) Their dynamic, however, runs a little bit deeper than that. The talented doujinshi artists Yuzuto (ゆずと), Reizou (れーぞう), and Susuko (すすこ), who compirse my recent re-initiation into the ship, all produced works that portrayed KuraBo as having a rather plausible romantic relationship post-series. They show these two to have made the change from acquaintances to good friends, then hinted at the possibility of something more. It is the kind of love that I would normally not go for, but these artists made me change my mind—and before I knew it, I couldn't get enough of them, and after burning my money away on any and all KuraBo doujinshi I can get my hands on, I just had to build their fanlisting. xD
